Youtopia field guide · breath & biofeedback

Heart rhythm.
A moment to reset.

HeartMath is a company known for guided heart-focused breathing and heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback tools. Here is a practical introduction, with a simple on-site breathing timer and direct links to its own instructions.

The practice

Start with a gentle minute.

  1. Pause and sit comfortably. Let your breathing slow naturally, without straining or holding it.
  2. Bring attention to your chest area while you breathe at a comfortable pace.
  3. If it feels helpful, recall a moment of appreciation or care. Return to normal breathing whenever you like.

HeartMath’s official Quick Coherence® instructions explain its branded technique. Our timer is a general visual breathing aid; it is not a HeartMath product or a measurement of coherence.

What the evidence says

Research on HRV biofeedback suggests potential benefits for stress and anxiety, but methods and outcomes vary. Evidence that it improves working memory is mixed. A breathing animation alone cannot measure HRV or establish a health benefit.
